Through an overwhelming loss, I was reminded of a lesson I learned long ago. Through living in the moment, I recognized the legacy I wanted to build.

It had been a difficult year. Though I still missed my parents every day, as more time passed, the more clearly I could see the future. I knew they would want me to keep living my life.

My parents were a huge inspiration. Both were in the medical field, where my father built his own business. My mother came here from Central America as a young woman, and the two of them built a successful life together from nothing. They instilled the importance of education in me and had high expectations. I admired how they helped people, and though I did not follow in their exact footsteps, I found another way to leave a positive impact on the world.

With my bachelor’s degrees in history and cultural anthropology, I became a teacher. It was extremely rewarding, but once my wife and I bought our first home in 1998, I discovered a passion for real estate. I quickly dove into the world of real estate investing. Soon friends and family were coming to me for advice. It was exciting and filled me with the same feeling as when I helped my students. Within a few years, I became a full-time REALTOR®

Real estate has enabled me to be there for my daughters unlike any other profession could. Family has always been my priority. It is why I moved back to the Redlands area near my parents to raise my children. Over the years, we built a great life.

When the crash hit in 2008, it changed my perspective. Rather than panicking like many others, I recognized it was an opportunity to go deeper. I leveled up my business, committed to learning more than ever about the industry, and grew in new ways.

All in all, I have led a relatively blessed life and am very grateful. However, my parents suddenly passed away within days of each other in 2021. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced, and it was devastating for my entire family. My three daughters were very close to my parents, so I focused on my family as we all learned to cope. Being around my wife and daughters helped immensely, and we grew even closer. The experience also reminded me of something I learned as a young man.

When I was 28 years old, I had a near-death experience that literally made my life flash before my eyes. It woke me up to seizing the day and being present in my life. Afterward, I consciously chose to enjoy every meal and moment with loved ones. I never forgot what changed for me that day, and yet, losing my parents reemphasized that importance while leading me to reevaluate my life.

I love what I do as a REALTOR®, helping people grow in each new chapter of their lives. My parents built a legacy in this community helping others, and I added on to it in new ways as a REALTOR®. While thinking about my next chapter, I turned to the idea of legacy.

My real estate business is about more than me; it is about the relationships I have grown over the past 20+ years. All those people have new adventures ahead of them, and while I will still be here for many years, I hope to one day pass this legacy I have expanded on to someone who will help it continue to flourish.

Whenever I am not working, I enjoy traveling, sharing good meals, attending concerts, and appreciating life with my family. My favorite part of being a REALTOR® is making new friends.
